Norwich Christian project saves club from closure

MarlpitYouth ClubFBMarlpit Youth Club, which was at risk of closure, has been taken on by Norwich Christian project ENYP who have pledged to continue to offer positive activities for the popular club.

ENYP, who already work in the West Norwich area,  has recently taken on ownership of the running and delivery of the Marlpit Youth Club. The club was staffed by volunteers, who had been running the club since the end of the Norfolk County Council funding a few years ago, but was facing an uncertain future at the end of 2014.

In the past couple of months ENYP has met with the current team and Momentum Norfolk, and will be taking ownership of the club under the charity’s existing youthwork activities.  The club sessions will recommence again in the next few weeks and will be delivered fortnightly.  The club was well attended by young people in the last few years, and ENYP didn’t want to see this valuable opportunity for young people to engage in postive activities finish.

The ENYP team will continue to work with the club volunteers and will enable them to develop leadership skills in their given role, supported by experienced and trained youth workers.

Liz Fredericks, Community Support Worker for Momentum, said: "I am so pleased that ENYP are taking over Marlpit Youth Club. Having worked with Danny, Lucie and the ENYP Team prior to the handover, I know they fully understand how important it is to provide positive activities for young people to get involved with. ENYP is committed to growing and developing Marlpit Youth Club so that it can offer an exciting range of activities and opportunities for young people in the local area"

Danny Doran-Smith, Director of ENYP, said: “ENYP is being asked more and more to lead and develop youth work across Norwich, and our engagement models have been successful, so we’re pleased to be able to work in partnership with local communities and other organisations to ensure that activities continue to be available that support young people in their development”.

The Marlpit Youth club will be branded under ENYP’s proven delivery models – 180 and Download clubs - supporting young people in both primary and high schools.  Sessions commence on Friday 30th January 2015 at Marlpit Community Centre and will run fortnightly.  Embedded in the club’s programme of delivery will also be the opportunity for young people to participate in the Arts Award scheme – achieving a certificate for participating in a range of different arts based programmes and activities.
