London Marathon runners for West Norfolk charity

This weekend, two runners from Norfolk will be tackling the London Marathon to raise money for the King’s Lynn Night Shelter.

Rachel Earl and Sally Beadle will be taking on the London Marathon this Sunday to raise much needed funds for the Night Shelter in King’s Lynn.

Night Shelter co-ordinator Lucy McKitterick said: “The Night Shelter receives no national or local government funding and is dependent on the generosity of our community and friends to be here for our guests. This means we’re especially grateful for fundraising initiatives like this one and we’re very proud of Rachel and Sally for being the first to run the Marathon for us.”

For Rachel Earl, this is the last of three fundraising challenges having run the Sandringham 5k in September and the Great Eastern half marathon in October.

“The Night Shelter is aiming to open all year round and I’d like to support them in reaching this goal by raising as much money as possible for them,” said Rachel.

The shelter has just been granted planning permission to be open 24/7 after a 7-month planning process. This step prepares the way for year-round opening.

Sally Beadle is running to raise money for four charities, including the Night Shelter and Christians Against Poverty King’s Lynn.

“As a child I watched the first London marathon on tv and something about it drew my attention. Its taken over 30 years and many failed ballot attempts however I have secured a place in the 2024 London marathon. This is a dream come true,” said Sally.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported our runners so far. We’re looking forward to seeing their photos and hearing their stories from the big event next week,” said Lucy.
