Church's Love Norwich initiative helps school
2010: A team of 25 volunteers from
Love Norwich were on hand to help the staff and parents from
Mile Cross Primary School transform their playground in new flower beds.
The playground has been undergoing works which includes the construction of some new flower beds, but over 30 tonnes of soil needed moving to finish them off.
Love Norwich, an initiative of Proclaimers Church, recently started to demonstrate a love for the city by practically meeting the needs of the local community.
Senior Minster from Proclaimers Church, Pastor Tom Rawls said: “As a church, we’re thrilled to be making a contribution to our city. We love Norwich and want to be a force for good in our community.”
With the soil now in place, the children will be able to spend the next few weeks filling them with plants, herbs and vegetables as part of their lessons, adding to the décor of the playground and also providing valuable learning opportunities.
Stuart Allen, Head Teacher at Mile Cross Primary School said: "Stirling effort from everyone and a special thank you to Love Norwich and the crew of merry men and women. A great help to the school. On behalf of the school, parents and Mile Cross community, a great big thanks. Hopefully this will strengthen the relationship between Love Norwich and the school."
The team from Love Norwich are fully behind Norwich’s bid to be UK City of Culture 2013, and the vision of the city’s application to ‘change our world for the better’. “This is a group of local people, wanting to make a change for the better in our local community,” say Phil Temple, project leader.
