Norwich church with a heart for the nations

Norwich Family Life Church, is one of the most missions-minded churches in Norfolk, as demonstrated by its recent Missions Weekend, pastor Trevor Pimlott’s trip to the Philippines and a forthcoming visit by the Vicar of Baghdad.
Andrew WhiteMore than 30 international mission agencies had displays at the Mason’s Road church during its third annual Missions Weekend when participants flew in from four continents to take part in the global event hosted by NFLC, but also supported by other local churches whose members helped to supply accommodation for missionary guests.

Trevor Pimlott, NFLC’s Senior Pastor, is in the Philippines this week to support the church‘s outreach work there and also speak in some of the large prisons in the city of  Manila where Christian converts have established thriving churches within prison walls. Trevor’s wife, Joyce, and co-worker Nicola Sizer, are also travelling with Trevor.

However, they are also excited about being back in Norwich later this month to welcome Canon Andrew White (pictured right) – nicknamed ‘The Vicar of Baghdad’ - when Andrew speaks at NFLC on Sunday evening, March 25, (6pm), for the first of three meetings in the city.

Canon Andrew White has an extraordinary ministry of reconciliation and conflict mediation in the Middle East. Having worked for many years in Israel and Palestine, including negotiating the end of the Bethlehem siege in 2002, Canon White now works almost exclusively in Iraq.

In the face of significant threats to him personally and repeated bombings of the church, Canon White pastors one of the largest churches in Iraq, St George’s, Baghdad, despite a battle with multiple sclerosis, a condition that affects his mobility and speech.

Pastor Trevor has paid tribute to the bravery of Canon White who has won numerous awards for his bravery in peace negotiations in the Middle East – “you will be amazed by his story,” says Trevor.

Canon White will also speak at Norwich Anglican Cathedral on Monday evening, March 26 (8.15pm for 8.30pm) on the theme of peace issues in the Middle East.
