Norfolk Christian football reaches out across world
2012: The Norfolk Christian Football League is a way of creating community links both in this country and abroad as a recent team managers meeting heard last night, reports league secretary Jess Tyson.
Team Managers took time out of their busy schedules on November 8 to gather together and reflect on the core mission and values of the
Norfolk Christian Football League.
NCFL Vice-chair,
Jim Green, opened the meeting by emphasising how the league was in a perfect position to be linking community to church through football.
People who play for the Norfolk Christian League may not attend church on a Sunday but through our relationship with Jesus and our relationship with our team mates we can bring church to them, in simple ways such as offering to pray for them or demonstrating God’s grace in how we play football.
Darren Cox, Kings FC, shared how football was a great way to bring guys together and provides opportunities for support as individuals in the team journey through life’s issues.
The meeting also gave an opportunity for team managers to break off into small groups to share any good news stories or challenges that the teams were facing. Team Managers could then pray for each other if they wished.
NCFL heard how the mission was also taken further afield by
John Thornberry, from
Sheringham Baptist FC, who has recently taken some young footballers from NCFL on a mission trip to
Uganda.
As well as building a new school and community building the mission trip used football sessions to reach out to young people in the area. John was able to give old NCFL kit and equipment to support the project.
Jess Tyson, NCFL secretary, said: “This annual opportunity to focus back on our Biblical principles was an encouraging time of sharing good news stories and a time of prayer.”
