The word 'Cosmic' means 'ordered', and the Cosmic Mass is an attempt to find our place in the Cosmos, or the ordered universe, with the purpose of transforming the separation that we humans feel from the 'cosmic ordering' that is our planet, the Earth.
As humans we take from the earth without regard to the delicate balance that sustains our life. The earth will always be here, but because of our disregard for this balance, it may be the human race has less of a future. The natural balance of our planet will be maintained, with or without humanity.
But we have a natural wisdom, given to us in the Christ, and it is through being led by this wisdom that we hope to create an experience of balance.
The mass will involve identifying with the earth as mother, and seeing the adolescent way in which we humans have disregarded this relationship, in the hope that we can make amends and re-create it.
The Mass will involve music, art, dance, poetry, ritual and communion, is free of charge and will last about an hour and a half. It takes place at St Luke’s Church, Aylsham Road, Norwich, NR3 2HF at 6.30pm on Sunday June 2.
