Norwich YFC showcase reveals exciting plans

A showcase evening of the work of Norwich Youth For Christ on March 7 included the commissioning of four youth workers and revealing details of a planned new £40k mobile recording studio project.

Over 85 people, representing 20+ churches attended the NYFC Annual Showcase and Thanksgiving at Soul Church in Norwich, which highlighted the past year and included worship band Storehouse, the NYFC Gospel Choir, YouTube videos and interviews with young people impacted by the work.

NYFCShowcaseInterview450The evening celebrated the progress made with the Who Cares Youth Mission which has seen the question ‘what hurts the most?’ posed in 18 schools and to 4000 young people either through NYFC or partner organisations and churches. A specially formed ‘Youth Work Collective’ has also been developing ideas for the planned response which include a Remembrance Evening for those affected by loss, an Anti Bully Roadshow and mentoring training for churches.

Young people praised their experiences of NYFC’s youth work. Hannah, aged 14, said her youth club was “somewhere to feel safe and if you have a problem you can talk to the leaders about it”. Charlotte said she loved the friendship she had found at the gospel choir and that it had helped her to connect with God.

New staff and trustees were commissioned at the event, including Sarah Ballard (Creative Arts Youth Worker), Emmi Marlow (Youth Worker, Yare Valley Benefice), Rupert Appleton (Student Youth Worker, Meadow Way Chapel), Paul Roast (Schools Worker) and Beth Loaker (Trustee).

NYFCShowcase450New Creative Arts Youthworker, Sarah Ballard revealed future project, ‘Tracks’, a mobile recording studio, that can visit schools and communities for young people to record their own music. The resource will cost £40k and NYFC are in the process of approaching various funders.

NYFC Director, Nick Blanch, gave thanks to the staff, volunteers and supporters who give time, energy and finance to the work but stated ‘there are still too many young people who can’t answer the question ‘Who Cares?’ We must ensure we take the good news of Jesus to more young people so they know that there is a God who loves them’.

The evening was rounded off by a bake-off competition between youth groups as attendees were able to sample and rate their favourite cakes.
