James to run first marathon in aid of YMCA Norfolk

YMCA Norfolk trustee, James Shelton, is set to run his first ever marathon when he takes on the London Marathon in April as part of the YMCA national team.

James (pictured above), who is also marketing manager at Norwich Anglican Cathedral and a match-day announcer at Norwich City FC, is aiming to raise £2,500 for the Christian charity with his run on April 22.

“I've been a trustee for YMCA Norfolk for the last five years and so running the marathon is a way of further supporting a cause I really believe in,” said James.

“Sometimes in life we all need a helping hand. The last year has been a time of big changes in my own life. I have needed the help and support of others and have been so very grateful to find it. So it feels like now is the best time to take up this challenge.

“The YMCA is a wonderful charity that provides help and support for disadvantaged young people and families. This help often arrives at points of crisis in their lives, including when affected by homelessness,” said James.

YMCA Norfolk CEO, Tim Sweeting, said: “From having run the London Marathon myself a couple of years ago I know how tough a challenge it is, not just on race day but also the gruelling training programme leading up to the big event. Please sponsor James generously as he makes this commitment to fundraise for our work with vulnerable young people and families across Norfolk. The life transforming work we do would not be possible without your support.”
