Join Broadland church group on Oberammergau trip

Revd David Wakefield, vicar of the Lingwood benefice is taking a group of people to the Oberammergau Passion Play in 2020, and is inviting other Christians to join the group for this holiday and pilgrimage.

Nearly 400 years ago the history of the Passion Play began. The plague raged in many parts of Europe and did not spare Oberammergau either. In 1633 the Oberammergau villagers promised to perform the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ every tenth year, in order that no one would die of the plague any more. The villagers were answered by God and therefore in 1634 the first Passion Play took place. The promise has been kept until today. The 42nd Passion Play will take place in Oberammergau daily from May 16 to October 4 2020.

A visit to the Passion Play is combined with a holiday among the sparkling lakes and majestic mountains of Austria – and will give the group the opportunity of holidaying together with the common purpose of attending the Passion Play. The group will travel together, with an itinerary of included coach excursions and walks.

Oberammagau2 360Rev Wakefield explains: “We fly from Heathrow to Munich and will be based for five nights at the Alpenland hotel in Maria Alm, right. Maria Alm is a picturesque German village set amongst grand mountains and lush meadows, less than ninety minutes’ drive from the musical capital of Salzburg. A gondola ascends from the square onto an “alm” or high pasture, where you can walk to alpine huts offering traditional hospitality. Our final two nights are in the village of Oberammergau where we attend the Passion Play in the Bavarian Alps.”

The final few rooms departing June 26 2020 for 8 days are available. Contact David on revd.wake@btinternet.com or 01603 713880 for a brochure and more information.
