orfolk Christian charity feeds over 5,000

A Norfolk Christian charity planned to feed 5,000 people in 2018 through their food distribution and community projects. By the end of August they have already smashed this target, which shows the efficiency of the project, but also the extent of food poverty in Norfolk.

ENYP runs a number of different food projects supporting children, young people and families. The Charity, along with St Elizabeth Church, partners with two national supermarkets and two restaurants, who provide fresh fruit, vegetable and bakery items each week, the charity was able to able to exceed the 5000 target in only 7 months (reaching 5038 people by the end of July!), and by the end of August this year they have fed 5,480 people through their food distribution.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 5480 people were fed between January and August 2018
  • 903 picnic bags were distributed between January and August 2018
  • 522 people received free meals through our outreach provision between January and August 2018
  • 2368 children were fed between January and August 2018

CURRENT PROJECTS

The projects that are currently delivered are below, and ENYP’s partnership with St Elizabeth’s Church in Earlham supports the delivery of some of these activities. Food is distributed in the following ways:

Picnic project: This project delivers a ‘picnic’ bag’ of fresh food to the homes of families and individuals when in financial difficulties.
Clubs: ENYP delivers over 50 initiatives to support children and young people and we engage with over 2000 through our programmed activities. All our clubs aim to be fun, imaginative, creative and inspire growth - we provide food in these clubs for children and young people, and some activities include a two course meal.

ENYPapplesCF

Squeeze: Squeeze provides healthy smoothies and snacks. A ‘Squeeze’ Bar providing these is at each ENYP club for children and young people
to encourage healthy eating and wellbeing.

Bake A Difference: Bake a difference is a new project which aims to upskill people in baking and cake production and help feed the homeless, children and young people. This will be in partnership with the local charity Hope into Action who provide homes for those who are homeless.

Daily Bread: ENYP gives out bread each day to local families and individuals in need.

Community Café: The Beacon café at St Elizabeth’s Church serves hot meals and once a month hosts a free meal for all ages, with movies and
crafts for the children. Food is provided to help support free meals.

Soup kitchen/lunch club: St Elizabeth’s Church has been running a fortnightly soup kitchen/lunch club at a local sheltered housing
complex to provide a lunchtime meal for the local community – food is used to help support the community lunch club.
