KnittedBibleFestival2018750Lopham knitters complete 60 Bible scenes for Festival

A group of 15 dedicated knitters have worked for three years to create 60 Bible scenes for display in the Knitted Bible Festival to be held at St Nicholas’ Church, North Lopham, over the October half-term.

This is the third year of the free to attend Knitted Bible Festival at St Nicholas' Church, North Lopham. Each year more Bible scenes have been added until now the series of tactile knitted people and animals complemented by handmade props is complete.

Jennie Vere, who has organised the effort, said: “A highlight from previous years has been the amazing response. We have had visitors from home and abroad, even people from Texas on holiday in England.  Their comments in the visitor's book have been encouraging, and it is wonderful to see children reading the captions or recognising a scene from an Open the Book story.”

Ten new scenes have been added this year including:

  • Joseph reconciled with his brothers
  • Jeremiah being rescued from the well
  • Starting to rebuild the Temple
  • Presentation of baby Jesus
  • Boy Jesus in the Temple
  • Parable of Prodigal Son/Waiting Father
  • Jesus, friend of children
  • Jesus' authority questioned in the temple
  • Garden of Gethsemane
  • The new Jerusalem.

Jennie said: “It is impossible to say which scene is my favourite. We go from Genesis to Revelation; and Abraham to Zerubbabel!”

The exhibition guide includes bible references so visitors can read the whole story behind each scene. Members of the church team will be on hand during the Festival to welcome visitors, with refreshments and a stall with craft items and preserves for sale.

The children's corner will have craft activities linked to the scenes and a range of illustrated bibles.

Admission is completely free. There is limited parking just outside, and plenty more space round the corner towards South Lopham.

The Festival will be open from 11am-5pm daily from Wednesday, October 24 – Monday, October 29.
