Sheringham church shed to receive Tesco boost

A Men’s Shed project being set up in Sheringham is set to receive a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Tony Rothe reports.

Sheringham Shed is inviting tokens of appreciation and encouragement to help others, by bagging a massive cash boost from the scheme which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to three local community projects. Customers can cast their vote for one of the three different groups using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop.

The Sheringham Shed project is progressing well, and will be somewhere for men of any age to meet together, especially the lonely and isolated, those with mental health problems such as anxiety or depression and those who find it difficult to relate to others.

Project team member Peter Farley commented: “With the sorry state locally of provision for those with mental health problems, the need for the services we will be offering is even more acute. We hope to be fully operational from March and we will then be looking to put on sessions for women as well.”

Nationally, Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £63 million to more than 20,000 projects across Britain. Locally, Tesco Sheringham gives £42,000 a year to good causes.
