Growing Norwich charity appeals for furniture

The Christian charity House of Genesis has been given the use of an additional four-bed house in Thorpe St Andrew, enabling it to provide support for some of the most vulnerable members of our society at this critical time.

The House of Genesis provides accommodation, support and advice to ex-offenders and homeless men in the Norwich area.

It is appealing for furniture and household equipment for the new house.

In particular it needs two single beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, a fridge freezer, a washing machine, an electric cooker, and cutlery and crockery.

If you can offer any these items, please contact Val Dodsworth on 07758 208470.

The charity is hoping to have the new house up and running by 1 April.

It currently offers accommodation on a short-term basis (up to 2 years) for 12 adult men in three houses. It aims to provide a family type home, where men can receive care and support to help them back into the community and to achieve independence. The new house will provide four new beds.

The charity was founded nearly 20 years ago by two Christians - a former probation officer and an ex-prisoner. They decided to do something to try and help men struggling to find safe accommodation upon release from prison. It originally provided a home exclusively for ex-offenders, but quickly broadened the welcome to include other homeless men in need of support.

The House of Genesis encourages residents to live positive lives and make new beginnings. Each is closely supported by staff, and referrals are made to enable independent living, to access employment, training or education, and to rebuild community links.
