Tribute paid to Norwich FGB Vice President Tim

Norwich FGB Vice President and carpenter Tim Arnold has died at the age of 70. Branch President Barrie Lawrence pays tribute.

“Don’t let them turn the life-support off.” Around a dozen of us stood to our feet, and cried uninhibitedly to heaven.

It was August 2018, and a member of our church, Liberty, and of Norwich FGB, had been taken ill whilst on a cruise holiday in the Mediterranean. Tim was transferred to a specialist unit in a hospital at Toulouse, and was on life-support. The news that Sunday morning was that the hospital would turn the machine off the next day. Tim had been coming to our church, and to FGB, for just a few months, and we believed the  Lord had a purpose for him amongst us. Hence our crying out to the Lord to bring him back to us.

The next day, we heard that the switch had not been thrown, and a week or so later Tim regained consciousness. Another two or three days, and I was asked to phone Toulouse, where Tim shouted down the phone, “Hallelujah! In Jesus Name.”

Flown back to Norwich, he spent a few weeks in hospital before returning home, and then going back to work as a carpenter. In January 2019 he was elected vice-president of Norwich FGB.

Tim Arnold was born near Acle on September 18, 1950, and was brought up on the family farm, and educated at the Norwich School in the Cathedral Close. He trained as a carpenter, and flew to the USA, where he met members of the Wycliffe Bible Translators, came to faith in Christ, and helped them with their building work.

Back in Norwich, and having been given the telephone number of a certain John Wright, Tim attended an FGB dinner. There he met Ann, whom he married. They settled in Catton, where they brought up their children, Abigail and Joshua.

Tim was one of the first on his feet to lead our church in communion, or to pray for people asking for prayer. At FGB, he served as vice-president from January 2019, and on occasions led dinner meetings, where at one, his wife Ann gave testimony.

Tim’s health was a challenge that he faced with faith, prayer and persistence. He entered heaven on March 2, 2021. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ann, their children Abi and husband Tim, Joshua and partner Laura, and the grandchildren, Ethan and Grace. He is very much missed by the church called Liberty and by Norwich FGB. We have lost a friend.
