Fakenham baptist new site 750A
Fakenham Baptists building for the future

Fakenham Baptist Community Church is developing a brand-new building on the outskirts of Fakenham which they will use to provide a range of amenities to serve the community as well as for worship. Tony Rothe reports.

The original plans were conceived several years ago when the church used a legacy to purchase an ideal piece of land. They sold their old building and, despite some delays, erected the new structure which is now secure and weatherproof. The church is hoping that this new building can be completed in 2022.

The church site on Clipbush Lane is ideally placed for all the local amenities, doctors, supermarket, restaurants and various workplaces. New housing is growing up in the surrounding the area with a proposed new large housing project close by.

Fakenham baptist new inside 50The interior of the building will consist of 3 sections - The worship area – with comfortable seating, a stage area, screens, state-of-the-art sound and projection systems; a community hall with shower facilities and storage; and the central section which contains the reception, cafe, utilities, toilets (including accessible facilities, baby-changing, laundry), kitchen, boiler room etc.

Above, there will be a mezzanine floor with offices, conference room and classrooms connection floors, with a wheelchair lift. Outside will include parking, a children’s play area and a quiet garden.

It is hoped that the premises will provide space for recreation for the town’s young people, including a sports hall and spaces for a crèche and toddlers group, a food bank resource, and office space for services offering advice and possibly debt counselling, and similar community services.

Kathy Smith, from Fakenham Baptist Community Church, said, “With the construction of our church building and community hall, our aim is to provide support and encouragement to all the community. Our vision is ‘We know Jesus and make him known’ and we hope this new facility will help us further this. We want to use it as a centre to touch the local community with warmth and welcome, and an organisational hub for all our practical projects.

“We promote the church each week at the Fakenham Market, offering support and prayer or practical information and take an active role in Churches Together in Fakenham. We believe the local community and beyond are excited to see our progress and will be able to share with us the fruits of having a building and hub for the 21st century.”
