BrushFactory750Church turns brush factory into community centre

A church in Norfolk is creating a new community centre after buying a redundant brush factory.

Christ Community Church in Attleborough have recently purchased the Hamilton Acorn Brush Factory on Halford Road. Since the factory moved out in 2017, the building was left vacant and dilapidated, but full planning permission to change its use was approved in March to turn the old factory into ‘The Lighthouse Centre’.

The Church plans to renovate the existing factory site for Church and community use. Their plans for the new building include a youth centre, a 500-seater auditorium, a community café, space for prayer and rooms that outside groups can hire. It’s a massive project and one that they seek to undertake in stages.

Rob Tervet, leader of Christ Community Church, said: “We’re thrilled to have such an amazing opportunity to create facilities that will serve the local community, as well as provide a home for our welcoming, vibrant and loving Church family.”

Christ Community Church has around 160 people in attendance and with The Lighthouse Charity has been a valued part of the community of Attleborough and its surrounding villages since 2007. Over that period the church has sought to be a force for good in the community and is currently reaching almost 500 people in the town on a regular basis.

The services it provides include:

The Girls Lounge - an after-school drop in for girls
Treasures - telephone befriending, events, and practical support for 120 senior citizens
A popular table tennis group
The All-Nations Café
Rainbow Letters of Hope - a hugely successful intergenerational letter writing service
