Christian speaker visits Norfolk and Waveney

Two local Christian organisations are joining forces to bring pastor and conference speaker Andy Prime to Lowestoft and Norwich later this month.

Andy Prime will be the main speaker at Lowestoft Living Word from Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 October. He is the pastor of Gracemount Community Church in Edinburgh and a regular speaker at conferences, including the Keswick Convention.  He will also be speaking at Reaching Beyond, a leader’s seminar hosted by Norfolk Gospel Partnership, at Surrey Chapel in Norwich, on Wednesday 19 October

Andy has been the pastor of Gracemount since it was planted in 2017 as part of 20schemes, a church planting movement seeking to establish churches on Scotland’s housing estates.  It is located in and seeks to serve the Gracemount Housing Scheme, which is an area with high levels of deprivation.

Matthew Price, Vicar of St Mary Magdalene Church in Gorleston and a member of both the Lowestoft Living Word Committee and Norfolk Gospel Partnership steering committee said, “We are delighted to be hosting Andy Prime in Norfolk and Waveney this autumn. His passion for and commitment to ministry in hard places is inspirational.  I am looking forward to learning from him and seeking to apply some of the lessons he has learnt in Scotland in my own ministry and community.”

At each of the three evening meetings of Lowestoft Living Word Andy will be speaking on the times of the Call of the King from Matthew 8. Commenting on the theme for the conference, Andy said, “I hope we will see that there is something better than gaining this world, there is something worse than death, there is someone worth more than yourself, there is something worth losing your life for.  That the glory of the King does outshine the cost of his call.”

Drawing on Andy’s experience of living and ministering in an area with high levels of deprivation, the Reaching Beyond seminar in Norwich will explore how churches can engage with people from sections of society we often don’t engage with.

Andy Rees, chairman of Norfolk Gospel Partnership explains “Most of our churches will be effective in reaching people like us, but what does it look like to engage with people from other sections of society who we don't naturally connect with? Being in Norfolk, we will all have areas and people in our villages, towns and city that we know need Jesus, but how do we take next steps to introduce them to him? When we have, how do you help with some of the complex issues that emerge around discipleship in the context of a broken lives in a broken world?”

Lowestoft Living Word takes place at 7.30pm on 18, 19 and 20 October, at Christ Church, Whapload Road in Lowestoft.  Further details can be found at their Facebook page and their is an introductory film about this year’s convention on YouTube.

Reaching Beyond takes place at 10am on Wednesday 19 October at Surrey Chapel, in Norwich.  More details of the event and Norfolk Gospel Partnership, including other upcoming events can be found at norfolkgospel.org.uk.
