N Walsham Salvation Army’s right royal weekend

The Salvation Army in North Walsham took an active part in King Charles’ coronation celebrations in the town earlier this month.

Territorial Envoy Ruth Morey took up her role as leader of The Salvation Army in North Walsham earlier this year, and praised everyone involved in Coronation events across the town. She said she was delighted the local branch of the church and charity was able to join the celebrations, and had been committed to ensuring that The Salvation Army had a major presence throughout the weekend.
 
Visitors to the Resource Centre in Happisburgh Lane were able to enjoy a viewing of the coronation and party, and local Salvation Army members also attended a joint lunch and party at care home Furze Hill House, hosted by Jodie and the staff on Sunday afternoon. Ruth revealed: “More than 100 people gathered, Corps folks, residents and family members of Furze Hill House and much singing and dancing took place.  Trixie our oldest resident at 103 danced the afternoon away and it was the most uplifting, joyful occasion.”
 
The Salvation Army band participated in a civic service at St Nicholas Church on Sunday afternoon while Ruth, right, also led the congregation in prayers for the newly crowned King. The church and charity also connected with townspeople at a charities street fair on Monday, providing refreshments and information about forthcoming activities at The Salvation Army including the kids club during the Summer.
 
Ruth said she was delighted to be able to share the work of The Salvation Army, adding, “The fusion of both the corps and the care home is certainly proving valuable There can be no doubt that the people of North Walsham are very much aware of our dual ministry in the town.
 
“I do believe our little township reflected the whole mood around the country.  The weekend offered countless opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and engage with young and old alike and with people from lots of different cultural and diverse backgrounds.  It was a real weekend of inclusion for all.”
