NorthBrecklandYFCTeamN Breckland youth charity shares Jesus with hundreds

As the summer holidays begin, the North Breckland Youth for Christ team are reviewing the past academic year and giving thanks for the opportunity to work with hundreds of young people in youth cafes, lunch clubs and through their mentoring programme.

North Breckland Youth for Christ works in the towns of Dereham, Barnham Broom, Mattishall, Swanton Morley, Watton and Garveston running a mix of youth cafes, lunch clubs, assemblies, mentoring and creative projects, to see young people’s lives changed by Jesus.

During the last academic year the charity has run nine regular youth cafes with a combined attendance of 838 young people, the largest of these seeing 347 young people attend over the year. In addition 278 young people have attended school lunch run by the charity. This includes 220 children in primary school lunch clubs and 58 young people in high school based lunch clubs.

Paul Roast, Director of North Breckland Youth for Christ said: “Exploring the Christian faith with pupils from schools can throw up interesting challenges and is hugely rewarding.  This is one area I wish to grow in and to see North Breckland Youth For Christ getting into more schools to teach what the Christian faith is and who is this Jesus whom we aim to serve in our day to day living.”

During the last year the team have also mentored 26 young people.  Paul said: “Not all have stayed on but for those that have we have seen amazing progress.  Some have gotten through exams they never thought they would and are now set on future paths that were unthinkable before.

"What a thing to be able to be part of.  To not only see change in a young person’s life, but to know that you have been given the opportunity to be part of that.  We believe that this is only due to the power of God at work within us and we get to enjoy seeing the young people thrive as a result.”

The year also saw the charity work with churches from around North Breckland to launch a new youth worship event called Limitless.  They also ran BreckFest Radio and SOAK week in the Easter holidays giving young people the opportunity to broadcast a local radio station and get involved in social action.

In July a team of North Breckland Youth for Christ staff and volunteers also completed a fundraising challenge raising almost £2,000 by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks in one day.

Looking forward Paul said: “The year ahead is filled with promise as we push on to build upon what has been before; to ensure that more young people know about the faith we have and the Jesus we adore.”
