New President for Diocese Mothers’ Union
The Bishop of Norwich has commissioned Marguerite Phillips as the new Diocesan President of the Mothers’ Union along with twelve trustees at a special service at Norwich Cathedral.
The
High Altar of
Norwich Cathedral set the scene for the commissioning of the new
Diocesan President of the
Mothers’ Union, Marguerite Phillips and twelve trustees by the
Bishop of Norwich, Rt Rev Graham James on
Thursday January 31.
During the special service the Bishop of Norwich stated: “Here in this place love and service meet; the Anglican church without the Mothers’ Union is unthinkable.”
The new President Marguerite Phillips, from Norwich, said:
"Bishop Graham gave Mothers' Union a wonderful endorsement and I and the Diocesan Trustees left the service inspired to take our work forward, uplifted by the prayers of our members who wrote in or came to support us."
In the Diocese of Norwich there are over 60 branches of the Mothers’ Union and 1000 members, many of whom volunteer in their parishes and beyond.
Members of the Mothers’ Union help to provide Christmas presents for children of prisoners, knit for three hospitals across the county and fundraise to help literacy programmes in African countries or contribute to other projects that make life better for the marginalised.
Members also hold fundraising events to support Mothers' Union development work with families overseas and to provide "Away From It All" holidays for disadvantaged families in the UK. Last year 24 holidays were provided for local families at
Caister, referred by Clergy, Health Visitors and Social Workers.
Alongside this is a vibrant prayer and worship calendar of events and social policy campaigning at a national and international level.
