New school, food gifts and church celebration
Latest news in brief includes celebrating a new church school opening in Norwich, food gifts in Yarmouth and a successful church restoration project in North Norfolk.
Children in
Cringleford celebrated the completion of their new £7.8m Church of England Primary School in a special dedication assembly with the
Bishop of Norwich on October 4.
Norfolk County Council, the
Diocese of Norwich and developers of the new
Round House Park estate have funded the 420-place school, which doubled the number of primary school places in the growing village. The new school, which opened in June, replaced the former school, in Cantley Lane.
Neil Henery, headteacher, said: “The new school has brought the whole community together and has meant we have a bright space fully equipped for teaching the whole curriculum.”

St Andrews Church in
Gorleston has donated two car loads of food from their harvest festival to the
YMCA Norfolk residents in
Great Yarmouth.
Housing manager
Ben Stone (pictured right) said: “At present there is no recognised foodbank in Great Yarmouth and our young people can often be reliant on the food items we can provide for them. Our link with the local churches and the YMCA's Christian identity can really be a blessing to the young people we work with.”
A harvest festival service at a north Norfolk church was also an opportunity to celebrate restoration of a fine Victorian stained glass window.
St Peter’s, Brumstead, near
Stalham, which is one of the county’s smaller parishes, had to raise £12,000 for emergency repairs including preventing loss of the east window.
With a population of 84, it was a challenge but worshippers were keen to help the church’s fabric. The church, which was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1085, now holds three services a year.
Alan Beck, who shares the task of caring for the church with his aunt,
Enid Sands, was among those who took up the challenge to raise funds. The Norfolk Churches Trust also made a £5,000 grant.
