Salvation Army launch Norfolk Christmas appeal
The Salvation Army launched its Christmas ‘Toys & Tins Appeal’ on Sunday November 17 with two dozen motorcyclists travelling from Stalham to Norwich collecting donations along the way.
On Sunday at 12.15pm the
Stalham based ‘No Club Cyclists Group’ roared up to
The Forum in Norwich having collected tins and toys on their cross county journey.
The charity ride marked the launch of
The Salvation Army and
BBC Radio Norfolk’s county wide
'Toys & Tins' appeal where donations of toys and food are collected to be given to
Norfolk families facing difficult circumstances.
Last year a total of 5,000 food packs and 2,253 toy packs were donated to the appeal and then received by adults and children in various family or care settings throughout Norwich and Norfolk at Christmas time.
A roadshow, which includes a Salvation Army band, will be visiting different locations across the county each day from
10am – 2pm from Monday November 19 – Saturday November 23.
The roadshow will be at Roys of Wroxham on Tuesday, Great Yarmouth Market Square on Wednesday, Fakenham Market on Thursday, the Forum in Norwich on Friday and Sheringham railway station on Saturday.
Until Christmas gifts of toys, tins and donations are collected in the ‘sleigh’ at the Forum, Salvation Army corps and charity shops, some branches of Roys, QD and a selection of supermarkets and local shops, in addition to many other places including participating schools and churches.
Gifts of toys, monetary gifts and non-perishable foods would be gratefully received including branded Christmas related treats such as chocolates, shortbread, and Christmas puddings.
You can also give online at
www.justgiving.com/ToysandTins or donate by text by texting the code
ARMY58 to 70070 with the amount you wish to give e.g. 'ARMY58 £5’.
They would also be eager to hear from people who would be willing to volunteer to help collect and pack at the Norwich warehouse or local Salvation Army hall. Call Mel Easton on 01603 724403 if you would like to get involved.
