Are you making best use of your time?

Ruth Tong suggests we may need to reconsider our priorities in order to make best use of the time we have here on earth.

Isaiah 32:8 ‘But the noble man makes noble plans and by noble deeds he stands’.

According to the BBC news back in 2013, witty Scottish author Ian Brooks, 59, on finding out he terminal cancer said he was overwhelmed by all the support he’d received from the public and fellow writers. Ian then proposed to his long-term girlfriend with the words ‘Will you do me the honour of becoming my widow?’ Even in the face of the grim diagnosis he found humour.

Like many of those who have been given a number to their days, Mr Brooks found a sense of urgency and the need to formalize what mattered to him. As someone once said - The only thing certain in life is death. It’s easy to drift in the non-urgency of life and take for granted what really matters.

If you had to do an audit of your personal world today would you be at peace? The bottom line is - Is your priority what you’re doing right now?

Here are some useful questions to help you sharpen your focus:

  • What are you spending your time, energy and money on?
  • Does that fit with who you want to be?
  • If not what plans do you need to proactively set in place to change that?

‘Father please show me how to be alert and make the best of the time I have here on earth’.
