Norwich training for church-led toddler group leaders

On Saturday, March 9, toddler group leaders from churches across Norfolk and beyond will be gathering in Norwich for a training day on how church-led toddler groups can develop their Christian distinctiveness and extend their mission.

The ‘Developing Christian Distinctiveness’ training day on Saturday, March 9, 9.30am - 4.30pm at St Luke's Church in Norwich is organised by the Diocese of Norwich Children, Youth and Families team.
With an estimated 52% of under-4s in England and their adult carers, attending a church-led toddler group (according to the ‘More than Sundays’ report, 2009), it is crucial that these groups are recognised as an important part of a church’s ministry to the community.
The training is open to anyone who is involved in running a church toddler group or has a vision to see a group develop its Christian distinctiveness and extend its mission. People are encouraged to come with those on their team - group leaders, volunteers or church leaders – to discuss and envision together during the day.
The day will explore what it means to be Christianly Distinctive as a church toddler group; what it means for toddler groups to be recognised and play a part their church's missional strategy and how to develop ongoing links and levels of discipleship with the families who attend.
Anna Walker, Project Adviser for Children, Youth and Families at the Diocese of Norwich said: “We are delighted that Rev Richard Hardy, Director of The Entheos Trust, will be coming to lead the day; sharing his considerable passion, knowledge and expertise for encouraging and helping toddler groups realise their potential.”
“Together with the support of those on our Task Force who represent Work with Under 5’s, we are committed to supporting individuals and teams in churches who invest in this valuable area of work with young families and to help them see their efforts flourish. Whatever stage your toddler group is at, come along! There will be opportunity to meet with others and you are sure to be encouraged and go home with fresh energy and vision.”
Rev Richard Hardy said: “I am really looking forward to spending the day with you. I believe that toddler groups have a key part to play in the mission of the church. As such, yours is a key role. My prayer is that together on March 9th we will: catch a vision for what might be; develop a strategy to see it become a reality in our community and have the courage to see it through. Be sure to be with us as we dream together.”
During the day there will be opportunity for:

  • Sharing ideas and considering how to take active steps to making your group more Christianly Distinctive as well as how to overcome some of the barriers.
  • Time to meet and network with other toddler group leaders.
  • Encouragement to envision together and share and work as a team.

Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
The cost of the training day is £10 per person. Please book in advance by signing up here.
