Norfolk couple trek 100 miles for Compassion in Togo

On Thursday Paul and Linda Coleman, from SOUL Church, will set out on a 100-mile trek from King’s Lynn to Great Yarmouth, a challenge that will take three days, sleeping under the stars, to raise money for Compassion’s Togo infant mortality appeal.

On Thursday, June 6 Paul and Linda Coleman from Spixworth will begin walking 100 miles along Norfolk footpaths on a journey from King's Lynn to Great Yarmouth.

Linda Coleman said: “We'll be walking to save the lives of vulnerable mothers and babies in Togo, by supporting the important work of Compassion’s child survival projects through their Different Path Appeal.”

Paul and Linda, who until recently worked in Pastoral Oversight for SOUL Church, are passionate advocates of the Christian charity Compassion and their child sponsorship programme. The couple have visited the two girls they have sponsored for over 12 years - Jeerapornfrom Thailand and Violet from Uganda – multiple times.

This challenge will take the pair along the Nar Valley Way, Wensum Way, Marriott's Way, and Wherryman's Way. It should take three days and the couple will be camping out overnight.

Writing on Instagram two weeks ago Paul said: "So yesterday Linda and I did our longest training session yet for our 100 mile walk in 3 days, just under 27 miles along a beautiful part of Norfolk countryside. To say it was tough is an understatement! But despite the blisters, aching limbs, bruises, we made it! Please sponsor us with whatever you can."

In Togo, 52 babies per 1,000 live births die before their first birthday. Compassion's Child Survival project tackles maternal and infant mortality at the heart of communities.  Delivered by the local church, this life-saving programme protects women during their pregnancy and ensures that their babies have a healthy start in life. Donations given to the appeal before 24 June 2019 will be doubled by the UK government, enabling the support of even more mothers and babies.
