Exciting time for Norwich church football team

The community focus of a Norwich church football team has led to growing numbers of players and one even paying for an entire new team strip as a way of saying thanks.

Gateway Vineyard football team from Norwich plays in the Norfolk Christian Football League and, although they finished second bottom last season, team manager Tom Horsfall says it’s a really exciting time to be a part of the club, and they have just won the league’s pre-season tournament.
“Our numbers are growing consistently with players contacting us having heard about our community focus through various channels,” said Tom.
“Our club has received such an abundance of blessings. One new player wanted to say thank-you for the love and support that he'd received from the club and decided the best way to do that was by donating us a complete new kit. He wanted to remain anonymous amongst his team mates but wanted to bless them by way of thanks his for simply accepting him.
“We have done a number of activities with other clubs in our league to try and build community including joint team visits to the pub. We are also currently in talks about working alongside Christians in Sport to host an event to continue to build community,” said Tom.
NCFL chairman, Jim Green, said: “Tom has done an amazing job with the Vineyard team, which God is clearly blessing. The team is a pleasure to be around, and in the way he is building community and allowing space for a connection with God, exemplifies what we see as the core values of this league.”
