South Norfolk church brings hope this Christmas

Hope Church is seeking nominations for people in the community who may appreciate a lovely surprise gift this Christmas.

Hope Church, which meets at venues in Diss and Harleston, is running a Love Gives campaign for Christmas 2019, with the aim of blessing those in the area who most need it during the festive season. Anyone can nominate a friend, family member or someone else they feel is really deserving of a special gift, which will be delivered anonymously the week before Christmas. All the church needs to know is the reason for their nomination, and they could be the recipient of a lovely surprise.

Church Leader Graham Blake said: “This is the third year we’ve run this campaign – it really is all about putting love into action and I love seeing the responses, both from those receiving the gifts but also those nominating deserving individuals. People are always so keen to nominate and give funding and those receiving the gifts have been absolutely delighted. Although Christmas can be a very special time of year, especially for us as Christians, we know this season can also be so tough for people and this is a fantastic way to let someone know that you are thinking of them. Trust me, it really can mean the absolute world to them.”

One recipient of last year’s gifts sent an email to the church saying, “We have had a tough year and few people know, as we have kept our troubles close... I would like you to know how much your huge, beautiful and thoughtful gifts have meant to us, we are all totally awestruck. We are now ‘paying this forwards’ as we have found strength and inspiration from it. Thank you does not seem enough, but we thank you all so much.”

Last year’s gifts included luxury food hampers, bottles of wine, flowers, deluxe toiletries, vouchers for restaurants or days out, children’s toys, clothing and even a foot spa for one lucky lady! All nominations are anonymous and confidential. Nominations will be taken until November 30th and gifts will be delivered between 20th and 23rd December.

You can also choose to donate funds to enable the church to bless even more people with gifts this year.

Do you appreciate our service and stories?

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.

Because we are part of a registered charity we can reclaim Gift Aid on your donations if you are a tax-payer.
