Sheringham church says it with flowers

Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham has been mobilising its fellowship to take bunches of flowers to their neighbours along with a cheery greeting and offers of support. Tony Rothe reports.

The initiative is part of the church’s “Operation Hello” project whereby the Lighthouse community are being encouraged to renew their efforts to reach out to their local neighbourhood.
 
There is also a new e-mail address for anyone wishing to find out more about Lighthouse or the Christian faith in general: hello@lighthousesheringham.org .
 
Sue Savory, pictured above, from Lighthouse reception team, said “We all have neighbours, and they all need a bit of encouragement sometimes. We are providing small bunches of lavender for Lighthouse folk to give to their neighbours with labels and a short message.” 

So far, these floral gifts have been well received, with one recipient saying, “You have brought me these at just the right time, as things are difficult right now, and this has really cheered me up”.
 
Earlier on this week, youth pastor Peter Skivington distributed activity packs to the children in the town who would normally attend activities at Lighthouse. These contained craft activities, games, a story, and sweets, and were compiled with two members of the Lighthouse children’s team, Maggie Rothe and Vicky Harrison. A YouTube video accompanied the pack.
 
Maggie said “It is important to continue engaging with the youngsters, even though our building is currently closed. We want everyone to realise that Lighthouse is still functioning”
