Norfolk Christian League appeals for volunteers

The Norfolk Christian Football League is looking to fill positions such as chairman, secretary, treasurer and social media officer at its AGM on June 20 and is inviting volunteers from both inside and outside the current league to consider joining them.

Current chairman, Mike Culwick, said: “We do believe that this league is here for a reason, that is to share our Christian faith with those who enjoy playing and supporting football in our league. We will never dilute that or move away from our commitment to do so, but we need people to make this happen. So, we need volunteers from either inside or outside the league who get the vision of what the league is about.”

Acting league secretary, Paul Nice, said: “Over the past few years the committee has been shrinking in number and increasingly aging with only four current committee members. The committee feels that we need new people with fresh ideas and ways of working to reinvigorate the league and take it forward into the future.

“We need a new, more permanent chair and secretary as well as a new treasurer.  A particular area to start utilising is social media (Twitter, Instagram etc.) which we understand is the way that other leagues are generating interest in and engagement around their fixtures and events etc.  This would be a new role on the committee.  It is key to say that these roles do not require an in-depth knowledge of football.

“If we, as a league, do not start to resolve these issues, starting from the AGM on June 20 and going into the 23/24 season, there will be no Christian league in the future.  No committee means no affiliation to the Norfolk FA as they require a fully functioning set of league officers to run the league,” said Paul.

“The new committee members need to be Christians and fully in sympathy with our mission statement of linking church and faith to community through football.”
