King’s Lynn charity fundraising weekend success

King’s Lynn charity, The Purfleet Trust hosted a fundraising weekend at Norton Hill Light Railway this month to contribute to their ongoing work with homeless people and support their new social supermarket initiative.

The Norton Hill weekend was a traditional family fete with carousel, fete games, fairground rides, and food stalls. The main attraction was the light railway which proved to be a family favourite with queues throughout the weekend.

The event was held in collaboration with Trinity Rotary Club and all proceeds will be split between the two organisations.

Purfleet Trust CEO, Paula Hall said: "We had a wonderful weekend hosting at Norton Hill along with Kings Lynn Trinity Rotary Club and are so grateful to Mr and Mrs Schumann for opening up the railway to raise funds for vulnerable people in our community.

“The support at these events makes a real difference for people experiencing homelessness in West Norfolk not just through the funds raised but by us being able to spread the message about homelessness and how we can work together as community to support people on a pathway to a brighter future."

The fete is one of the trust’s biggest fundraisers of the year.

Proceeds from the weekend will go towards Purfleet’s Health and Wellbeing Centre which acts as their hub in King's Lynn and provides support to people experiencing homelessness. The trust offers housing support, workshops to build practical skills and confidence, counselling services, and much more.

“Through the generosity of every person attending and the support of the local business community at Norton Hill we are able to provide our wide range of dedicated support services,” said Kieran Gamble from the Purfleet Trust.

Alongside their homelessness services, the trust has recently launched the Purfleet Pantry in collaboration with the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk and the Norfolk Community Foundation.

The Purfleet Pantry is a social supermarket based in South Lynn which offers food, essentials and furniture at affordable prices to the public.

“With this project we aim to tackle the cost of living crisis and support the wider community in our area. As of today, we are over 300 supermarket members which demonstrates the importance of this service in King's Lynn,” said Kieran.
