Local Churches Together groups are encouraged to invite those standing for election to Christian Aid Week

The charity Christian Aid are encouraging local churches to invite prospective parliamentary candidates to visit local churches during Christian Aid week.  Jim Atkins from the charity says:

"We’ve got an idea that could be transformative this Christian Aid Week.  We’re not talking about the amazing fundraisers, collections and church services that are already planned (transformative as they are). We’re suggesting the addition of one thing... the people who want to represent you in the next UK Parliament.

"This election year could you invite the candidates vying to be your next MP to your church for Christian Aid Week? Why? Because this is a great way to show candidates that your community cares about action on poverty."

Dr Ian Watson, County Ecumenical Officer for Norfolk and Waveney, supports this move, he says:

"This is a positive and creative suggestion from Christian Aid.  Despite being the bread basket of the UK, Norfolk has some of the most shameful levels of deprivation and poverty in the country.  I strongly urge local Churches Together groups and LEPs to get involved with this initiative and make it part of their local efforts during Christian Aid week."
