Christian Aid is looking for volunteer to work in the Norwich office to help build relationships with local churches in Norfolk and Suffolk. It is an opportunity to develop your telephone, database and administration skills, with training and support from the local team.

At Christian Aid we have a vision to end poverty and injustice.  Our work is founded on the good news lived and proclaimed by Jesus; it is inspired by hope and sustained by faith.  We partner with local organisations, churches and communities to fight injustice, respond to humanitarian emergencies, campaign to tackle climate change, support refugees and displaced people, and help people claim the services and rights they are entitled to.  Churches of all denominations are a key partner in raising awareness and money which enable this vital work to happen. 
A Church Calling and Database volunteer will help us develop our relationship with local churches in Norfolk and Suffolk. You will be based in the Norwich Office and have the opportunity to use and develop your telephone, database and administration skills.  For this role you will work closely with the Office Coordinator and the local team who will provide training and support in the role.

What will I do?

  • Calling church representatives, clergy and ministers who have supported or might support Christian Aid, to arrange a meeting with a Regional Coordinator or a speaking engagement
  • Liaising with the Regional Coordinator to ensure appropriate follow up
  • Updating our database system with records of phone calls and meetings
  • Keeping the database system up to date with other information we receive from supporters 

Possible additional tasks

  • Finding opportunities for volunteer teachers and speakers to share about Christian Aid in local schools and churches
  • Calling Christian Aid group organisers and church reps to see how we can further support their fundraising, campaigning and praying 

How much time can I give?

We’re looking for minimum 4 hours a week, day to be agreed, for a period of approximately 3-4 months based in our City-centre Norwich Office. The role has the potential to be extended.

What skills do I need?


  • an engaging telephone manner and good interpersonal skills
  • experience using a database system although specific training on Microsoft Dynamics will be provided
  • general IT knowledge and experience (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • good organisational skills
  • a good balance of self-motivation and ability to work as part of a team
  • the ability to maintain confidentiality 


  • an understanding of churches and local church networks
  • knowledge and enthusiasm for the work of Christian Aid 


What support will I receive?

  • appropriate induction and training for your volunteering role including mandatory training for Display Screen Equipment, Data Protection etc
  • supervision and one-to-one support from a member of staff
  • out-of-pocket expenses including reasonable travel expenses to and from the office
  • a regular volunteers’ e-newsletter
  • the role can develop depending on the volunteer’s interests and strengths 
  • You will also get the opportunity to hear first-hand about the work of Christian Aid from staff and partners.

  • you will need to be in sympathy with Christian Aid’s values and vision
  • you will need to live within reasonable travelling distance of the local office King’s Centre, King St, Norwich, NR1 1PH
