Norwich Christian project launches autism club

ENYPThis month, ENYP is launching the ‘Aspire’ club for those on the autistic spectrum. This will be a safe environment where young people can meet, make new friends without any fear of prejudice over their developmental disability.

This term ENYP launches a new club for young people who have a known or suspected Autistic Spectrum Condition (e.g. Autism, Asperger).  The club will meet on a monthly basis at St Elizabeth’s Church in Earlham (Cadge Road, NR5 8DG), and sessions will run from 3-4pm (cost £1) for young people in High School.

The aim of the club is to create a safe environment where young people can meet, make new friends without any fear or prejudice over their developmental disability. It will also be a place learn and improve social skills, discover new hidden talents and have fun.  Each session will be set up with a typical youth club feel, including activities such as Xbox, pool table, football table, games, arts and crafts and ice breakers.  Each month will have a different theme in the club’s programme, from talent shows to arts workshops and trips out.

Danny Doran-Smith, ENYP Director, said; “Our team is trained and has experience of working with those who have a known or suspected autistic spectrum condition. The monthly club is just the start of us developing a number of groups where children and young people can come together, build confidence, share experiences and become more independent.”

The dates of the club in the next few months are:

  • Saturday 31 January
  • Saturday 28 February
  • Saturday 28 March
  • Saturday 25 April
  • Saturday 30 May
  • Saturday 27 June
