Norfolk Christian youth-led radio station goes live

On Wednesday, April 11 North Breckland Youth for Christ launched BreckFest Radio, a youth-led radio station broadcasting live from 7am-9pm for three days alongside a social action initiative.

This week North Breckland Youth for Christ (YFC) has relaunched its BreckFest Radio and SOAK initiative, giving young people aged 10-18 the opportunity to serve their local community in and around Dereham through social action projects and the broadcasting of a local radio station.

BreckFest Youth Radio is broadcasting live from Wednesday, April 11 – Friday, April 13, 7am-9pm on 87.9FM.  The station will feature the latest music, local bands, comedy, chat, interviews with local people and live broadcasts by young people from around Breckland.  The station is being broadcast from Dereham Sixth Form Centre.  You can also listen from the North Breckland YFC website to view behind the scenes images.

Paul Roast, Director of North Breckland YFC said: “This is a great chance for young people to try out new things, get involved in the technical or presenting side of radio, serve the local community and have all of Dereham experience something that they have been a part of.”

Over the same few days, young people in Year 7 and above are being encouraged to join in with SOAK, three days of social action serving communities across Breckland.

Based at Trinity Methodist Church, Dereham from 10.30am – 3pm young people dressed in light blue t-shirts will spend time doing social action projects in the local area.  In previous years this has included running community cafes, gardening, litter picking and car washing.

The project is funded by Red House Youth Projects and Breckland Youth Advisory Board.
