Feast of football celebrated at Norwich church

World cup season kicked off with a fantastic start at a Norwich church as dozens enjoyed the exciting Spain v Portugal match with authentic cuisine thanks to Christian missionaries Paulo and Claudia.

Paulo and Cláudia Mussi, from Anápolis in Brazil, have left a 10-year mission in Portugal to come to Norwich to work alongside Norwich Central Baptist Church, to serve Portuguese speaking people and the local community around Mousehold.

Prior to the match, guests enjoyed a fish dish, bacalhau com natas, paella and moros y cristianos, washed down with non-alcoholic sangria. Half-time desserts included pastel de queso (cheesecake) and pasteis de nata (Portugese cream tart).

Spectators of the match included Spanish and Portugese fans. It proved to be an exciting match - a dramatic late free kick meant a hat-trick for Portugal’s Ronaldo, and Spain was denied victory, resulting in a 3 all draw. One fan commented, “everyone went home happy!”. It was a great atmosphere, and a wonderful way to draw the church community and visitors together.

NCBC Paulo ClaudiaCFThe next match shown at Norwich Central Baptist Church will be England v Panama on Sunday June 24 at 1pm straight after the church service. All are welcome.
